Even on Someday Street
~ By Dianne F. Bell ~
Sitting on the stoop
In front of Someday Street Church
Sat a frightened young woman alone.
Tears streamed down her worried face.
The poor woman had no home.
Without family and friendless,
Her pounding the pavement had been endless.
She had no place to go, so she sat there.
She was hungry and tired, but then, who cared?
After wandering the streets amidst the homeless throng,
She couldn’t remember where her life went wrong.
She knew her soul was empty:
She knew she needed rest.
She was weary of the struggle;
Lost, despite her quest.
She nodded all night long,
Until a quarter past nine,
When she was awakened by a ruckus:
It was Sunday School time.
The church members, clad in their Sunday best,
Anxiously, pressed their way.
They looked at the woman on the steps,
But not one had a word to say.
They rushed pass her without glancing back.
The saints simply ignored her, by hastening their tracks.
Bound and determined to get the best seating,
They hugged one another cheerfully,
With “praise the Lord” salutations and greetings.
Appearing to be the picture of holiness,
They clutched their bibles to their chests.
The homeless woman’s predicament was never addressed;
For they were too insensitive to perceive her hopelessness.
Isn’t the test in more than just hearing the Word?
Isn’t the proof in what we DO?
Isn’t the power and love of God for others;
As well as for me and you?
Those Christians lost sight of the gospel,
And the LORD they were hurrying to meet;
For Jesus loves the great and small alike;
Even on Someday Street.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murder, adulteries, fornication’s, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; These are the things which defile a man . . . Matthew 15:19 & 20 a
Listed Among the Slain
~ By Dianne F. Bell ~
You will never get to know me,
Nor who I might have become.
You claim you had a right to slay me.
Was it something that I’d done?
Children used to be a blessing.
Today, it’s not the same.
I was merely an intrusion
Who never had a name.
I’ll never fulfill my purpose.
My rights were held in gross disdain.
Before I’d done anything;
Good or bad, I was listed among the slain.
Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
Blood-Stained Hands
~ By Dianne F. Bell ~
Before the ‘Throne of Grace’ I stood
His glory to behold
Joy unspeakable filled my soul
What I experienced later must be told
As I lifted my hands in praise
I was distracted and alarmed
When I noticed streams of blood
Running down my arms
It was not the blood of the Lamb
It was not the blood of the saints
It was the blood of the masses
All races, colors, and classes
Who had been denied
A one on one witness from me.
I’d failed to let specific people know
That Jesus came to set us free.
I had been too tired
Soon apathy set in
I lost my commitment
I closed my eyes to them
Although I had made it
To the promised land
Only what I’d done for Jesus
Would inevitably, For all eternity stand
The moment finally came
For my works and motives to be judged
And there I stood, in deep remorse,
My hands all stained with blood
‘ ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant,”
Were the words I longed to hear
Instead a Mighty voice echoed forth,
“You barely made it here!”
God’s Plan, A New Man
~ By Dianne F. Bell ~
The beauty of your creation
Even in its fallen state
Leaves me in awe and wonder, Lord,
Your excellency you demonstrate
The heavens belong to you
The earth have you given to men
Perfect in creation and established by laws
Then man disobeyed you and fell in to sin
Sin opened the door to death
Death is sin’s ultimate outcome
So, in you infinite mercy,
You promised mankind a Son
A new man was your secret plan
Born of the incorruptible seed
The last Adam came through the gate of birth
His perfect life alone, met our need
By your plan and your grace
You are creating a brand new race
Born of God and Holy Ghost sealed
Creation itself is groaning, waiting
For the sons of God to be revealed
The beauty of the Savior’s purity and holiness
Anointed One, God’s first born Son
Thank you, Lord, for new life in Jesus Christ,
As I await your kingdom, soon to come!
But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Galatians 4: 4 & 5
