Teach valuable character lessons through the life of Elsie!
|
This book is designed to help young girls to recognize, analyze, and exemplify the godly character traits that are portrayed by Martha Finley’s beloved character, Elsie Dinsmore. Thirty-eight godly qualities are defined, identified, and cross-referenced with other positive character traits, using direct examples from the novel Elsie Dinsmore, the first couple of volumes in The Original Elsie Classics. Texts from the Bible are also provided to show how these virtues — definitions come from the Seminar in Basic Youth Conflicts — can be cultivated and applied to everyday Christian living, including suggestions for practical ways in which these traits can be put into daily practice by anyone.
Readers will find guidance concerning: Alertness, Attentiveness, Availability, Boldness, Cautiousness, Compassion, Contentment, Creativity, Decisiveness, Deference, Dependability, Determination, Diligence, Discernment, Discretion, Endurance, Faith, Forgiveness, Generosity, Gratefulness, Humility, Initiative, Justice, Love, Loyalty, Meekness, Obedience, Orderliness, Patience, Punctuality, Responsibility, Security, Self-Control, Sincerity, Thriftness, Truthfulness, Virtue, and Wisdom. While girls as young as nine years old are the particular audience for Elsie Dinsmore, the lessons in the Character of Elsie Dinsmore are also suitable for boys. |

i need info on martha finley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Editor’s Response: She is a hard one about whom to find information. It is mostly known that she was a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years. She wrote her books, which at the time sold thousands of copies, however, publishers began to prefer other women authors due to more humanist influences in society, including the Suffrage movement. You can be certain that Martha’s books (not just Elsie books) are wholesome and full of good character influences. As a matter of fact, Michael Dante Aprile authored a book, The Character of Elsie Dinsmore, which extracts 38 character traits from the first two volumes of the Elsie books. I am pretty certain that someone wrote a book about her, but I cannot site it from memory. Some short-sighted people say that the Martha’s books cast black people in a bad light, however, she lived and wrote in a time where they lived and were treated just as she wrote. It is a true history and not, in any way, a slant.
