Homeschooler Qualifies in National Merit Scholarship Program

One of many home educated students who are looking good!

A 17-year-old homeschooler, named Josh Prenot, was named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) this year.  It seems that 16,000 high school seniors,  out of 1.5 million, took the 2009 Preliminary SAT test to earn an NMSP spot.  Josh scored 221, which put him in the top one percent of high school seniors in the U.S. A sophomore in high school (home school), he has already earned 12 credits toward college.  Josh also happens to be a nationally ranked swimmer who is doing well in national competitions this year. And, who said homeschooling was not competitive or effect education.
