The Messianic Church believes Yeshua (Jesus of Nazareth) is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. They observe the Sabbath from Friday (at sunset) to Saturday (at sunset), along with the feasts described in Leviticus 23 and in the brit hadashah, such as Passover and Sukkot.
Editor’s response: Thank you Henry the comment from Michael Rood’s blog. I get the distinct impression that the ex-Marine Michael is against every religion on the face of the earth. However, to know Jesus Christ is to know that belief in Him is based entirely on “faith” in Him. Christianity is not a “religion”; it is faith in Christ that He is faithful to keep His promise to Abram. The promise to Abram was for all people who believe in Christ as Lord and Savior, not all who could keep the laws of Moses. Those particular laws could save know one. Once Moses was chosen by God to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, the Hebrews did not understand God (under Pharaoh, at Mount Sinai, in the desert, and even today), so during that specific dispensation (age, period), God gave Moses the Mosaic Laws specifically for the Hebrews. God veiled His glory, on Moses’ face, from them, and God veiled His glory, in the Holy of Holies, from them. The ceremonial laws were “blotted out” by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Golgotha. At that time, the veil was torn (top to bottom) for all who “believe” in Christ Jesus by “faith” (not by the law given through Moses to the Hebrews). Now those who have “faith” in “Christ’s faith” can see His glory. It is in them and is a law poured into them by Jesus Christ (the “Messiah” that was promised). The Mosaic Law that was specifically for the hard-headed Hebrews was blotted out, including the ceremonial laws (wherein the Sabbath ceremony was included). It tells us, and should also tell the Messianic followers, in the New Testament, that to keep these laws is “a curse”. It tells us that one who keeps one of these laws must keep all the laws perfectly, for if even one of the laws is broken, then the whole of the Mosaic Law is broken. No Christian, even a Messianic Christian, should attempt to keep these laws. The first church established by Jesus’ apostles, after His ascension, met on the first day of the week. That is plain and simple. Many great theologians, in all ages, have testified to this fact.

You say, “Many great theologians have testified to this fact” (presumably the first church met on the first day of the week) …
Many theologians have also testified to the fact that If one wants to follow only Scripture, then the 7th day of the week rest is the only appropriate day, and predates Moses, as it was established as a day of rest at Creation, and according to Isa will be kept in the New Earth…
Those theologians and church leaders also say that keeping Sunday as a day of rest is not based solely on Scripture, and rests squarely on accepting the Catholic Church’s authority to change the Law of God.
Here are a few quotes to consider:
“It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.” Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.
“… you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.” The Faith of Our Fathers, by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, 88th edition, page 89. Originally published in 1876, republished and Copyright 1980 by TAN Books and Publishers, Inc., pages 72-73.
“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. “The Day of the Lord” (dies Dominica) was chosen, not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.” Sentinel, Pastor’s page, Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995

Editor’s Note: Thanks, Misty, for your comment on this information. The one clear problem with the Internet is that we usually do not know if it can be trusted. Information such as that you have provided, including the quotes, appear to be slightly prejudiced against the clear doctrinal teaching of Scripture. Men, even famous ones, have their own ideas. If we are to look for the truth, we must have a standard by which we can distinguish that which is according to the doctrine of Christ and that which works to prove the Scriptural admonitions about false prophets in these end times. According to the Word of God, the Sabbath day, as well as all the other ceremonial laws, directed toward the Israelites, was fulfilled, for the church age, with the tearing of the vale of the Holy of Holies at the moment of crucifixion of Jesus Christ our Lord, at the very moment He said, “It is finished.” The Scriptures indicates that to ignore this fact and continue to attempt follow those laws is part and parcel a direct denial of what Christ did, being the sacrifice for those who believe in Him, and it is to curse oneself. If you do not have to keep the ceremonial law of sacrificing an animal, then you do not have to keep the ceremonial law of keeping the Saturday Sabbath. God did not take a nap on the seventh day, He simply completed the creation.
